H.R. 1388 educating students in service (PART II) Chicago School Reform 1995-2001.

28 March, 2009

> THE ROLE OF THE ANNENBERG FOUNDATION AND THE MAKING OF THE RECENTLY  SELECTED APPOINTED PRESIDENT. (please see footnote)

Bill Ayers and Obama’s attempt to change standards, infuse the classroom with radicalism, and  politicize parents and students in Chicago in the late 1990′s make me want to cringe.  But the fact that Obama has managed to create a  SERVE AMERICA bill that is infused with the same failed policies that were attempted in Chicago scares me.   I recognize the language” community activists, community volunteers, partners, community partners, service, political activism, programs with focus on specific failings in our country.  This is frightening, and it has been made into legislation that will commandeer all our schools and students and turn them into ACORN workers. The Ayers Chicago school reform has come to the U.S.  He may not have been involved in the Obama campaign, but he was involved with teaching Obama about reforming schools.

Obama, ACORN, Axelrod, Emmanuel, Jarrett and others on Obama’s team come out of Chicago. They deal like Chicago’s inner group. And they are now in charge of the asylum called Capital Hill.

The article at IBD (cited and linked below) includes this quote about the Chicago failure but it is appropriate to Serve America, so I am posting it here.

Like most efforts to improve the government monopoly by throwing money at it, the CAC was a failure, and a costly one at that. The grant was conditioned on raising at least twice that amount in matching funds. With the grant, CAC had $160 million to throw at the problem.

Oh, Joygrace told me two days ago about legislation that introduced to the House on 11 March,2009 – two days after H.R.1388.  It contains some of the same language as was stripped from the original bill before it was released from committee to the floor for consideration.  The word “mandatory” has reappeared.  I am posting the bill into a tab on my home page, so that you can read it and start posting about it.  We must nip this in the bud.  The bill is H.R. 1444.

We MUST recognize the threat and respond.  How shall we respond?

When Bill Ayers came out of hiding with his wife Bernadine Dohrn in 1980, he stepped back into his role of privileged son and returned to college to pursue degrees in education.  And, of course, that became his new profession – educating others about organizing and rebelling.

1995: a magical year for Obama

In 1995, Ayers helped write a proposal for an Annenberg Challenge Grant.  The Chicago Annenberg Challenge won $49.2 million, which was dispersed over a period of 5 years. That gave Ayers had a chance to “change” the school system of Chicago so that it reflected his own personal and political point of view.  Once he won the grant money, Ayers became  co-chair of  “the “Collaborative,” which shaped education policy.” (WSJ here)

There is still some mystery about how and when exactly during that year Ayers met Obama.   According to one source, in 1995 “at a lunchtime meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper, Barack Obama met Mr. Ayers…” (NYTimes here) I’m still trying to find a date for that meeting.

In March of 1995,  Obama was invited to chair the committee that oversaw the distribution of the grant, according to one source, by Deborah Leff, then president of the Joyce Foundation, a Chicago-based group whose board Mr. Obama, a young lawyer, had joined the previous year (and was to remain on for eight years earning over $70,000 in directors fees). (POLITICO here)   Obama served as board member for the CAC for three years, but he remained on the board until 2001.  [Later that same year, Obama begain to lay the groundwork for his political career and his run for State Senator.  But that is all a different story]  He was still teaching Constitutional law at the University of Chicago during this busy time in his life.
