ADDIS ABABA, Feb 2 (Reuters) – Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the leader of Libya, was elected chairman of the African Union on Monday and made clear he would pursue his vision of a United States of Africa despite reluctance from many members.

Now this is scary. For several reasons, the most obvious is that it is el-Qaddafi, the second is that he will accomplish his ends by any means, and the third that there is talk of a United States of Africa. There is already a European Union; there is talk of a North American Union; there is already the Soviet Union, which is apparently trying to enlarge its sphere of influence in the Balkans and perhaps reclaim its lost “states.” Ireland’s vote against joining the EU was recently over-run, and  it looks like there is a push to exert pressure on Iceland.

In recent months the Social Democrats had urged Mr Haarde to fire the central bank governor and move towards closer ties with Europe.
Iceland, a country of about 300,000 people, has traditionally sought to stay outside the EU.
But last month European Union Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said the island might apply for membership as soon as this year.

The prophets who warn of the New World Order may be closer to the truth than we like to believe.
